Ring in the New Year with these Little Barn Apothecary Inspired Cocktails

This holiday season, why not ring in the new year with some Little Barn Apothecary inspired cocktails? Here’s how to bring the ingredients of some of our favorite products into your glass.

Spices + Smoked Berries Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is the perfect wintertime drink to keep you feeling warm and festive. Plus, it will make your kitchen smell amazing while it’s simmering on your stove, just like our Spices + Smoked Berries Soy Candle. And it’s super easy to make!

Just choose a bottle of red wine to pour into a saucepan, add the spices, fruit, and sweetener to taste, bring to a boil and then simmer for about 10 minutes. Pour into mugs, add a cinnamon stick and an orange slice to garnish, and enjoy! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • Star anise
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Whole allspice
  • Whole cloves
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Fresh orange peel or orange slices
  • Maple syrup (or other sweetener of your choice)

Feel free to tweak this recipe with whatever other spices you want, it’s pretty hard to mess up. Just be sure to serve it warm!

Ginger + Rosemary Hot Toddy

Drinking a hot toddy is another great way to keep warm and to keep winter colds at bay. This is a slightly spicier version (depending on how long you boil the ginger) with a hint of rosemary. Drinking one of these will be almost as relaxing as lathering up with our Ginger + Rosemary Hand and Body Wash in the shower.

To make 1 drink:

  • 2 1/2 oz whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 cup hot water
  • Fresh ginger slices
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • 2 rosemary sprigs (one for the recipe and one to garnish)
  • Honey or other sweetener, to taste

Start boiling water on the stove.

Remove the needle from one sprig of rosemary and grind them to help release the flavor. You can use a mortar and pestle or just a bowl and the back of a spoon, whatever you have on hand.

Add the ginger slices and grind them as well.

Turn your stove to simmer and add the ginger/rosemary mixture to your water on the stove. Let sit for a few minutes.

While the water is sitting, add honey, whiskey or bourbon, and lemon juice to a mug.

Pour the mixture into your mug through a strainer and stir, making sure honey is dissolved.

Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and lemon slice and enjoy!

Mint + Coffee Cocktail

If you’re feeling tired of all the hot, festive drinks already and need a little pick-me-up, try this iced coffee cocktail inspired by our Coffee + Mint Exfoliating Body Scrub.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 oz. coffee liqueur
  • 15 mint leaves
  • Simple syrup, to taste
  • Cold brew coffee, to taste
  • Ice

Muddle mint leaves in a shaker.

Add coffee liqueur, vanilla simple syrup, and ice to shaker and shake.

Pour mixture over strainer into your serving glass full of ice.

Add as much cold brew as you like.

Garnish with a few mint leaves and enjoy!

Tip: to make your own simple syrup, just add equal parts sugar and water to a pot and boil until the sugar dissolves. To make it more interesting, you can also add the seeds of one vanilla bean or throw in a few cinnamon sticks while it’s boiling.
