With temperature drops and dry, indoor heating on the horizon, it’s easy for skin to dehydrate during the winter months. Keeping up-to-date with your moisturizing routine is, of course, important, but exfoliation also becomes an essential part of your skin care regimen as the cold weather creeps in. Scrubbing away those dead skin cells with the right exfoliant will keep your skin looking fresh and healthy, while allowing moisture to sink in.
Physical exfoliants, like the Jasmine + Geranium Polishing Body Scrub (available individually as well as in our "Glow For It" Body Kit) are ideal for buffing away dead skin cells without stripping your skin of it’s moisture. The organic cane sugar in this scrub works to slough off the layers of dead skin that can build up and cause skin to look dull, rough, and dry, while organic oils soothe and moisturize to give your skin a healthy and natural glow. Just massage a handful over damp skin and rinse off in the shower.
Since the skin on our faces is much more sensitive than on our bodies, abrasive scrubs can easily damage your skin by causing small tears to it’s surface. Using a proper facial exfoliator, however, will remove dead skin cells from pores that can cause build-up, making pores appear smaller and allowing your skin to absorb good things, like moisturizer or serum.
A natural physical exfoliator for your face, such as the Tea Leaves + Seeds Dermal Abrasive is perfect for removing that top layer of skin without damaging what’s underneath. This scrub uses organic green tea leaves and ground fruit seeds as a gentle exfoliator, devoid of any synthetic microbeads that harm both your skin and the environment. Just pour a small amount of the mixture into your palm and combine with your cleanser (we recommend our Charcoal + Aloe Face Cleanser). This extra step in your cleansing process will leave your skin looking brighter and healthier and will help combat that dreaded wintertime dullness.
For drier skin, a natural, chemical exfoliant is more effective, such as the Passion Fruit + Rose Enzymatic Exfoliant Mask. This gel-based mask uses fruit acids as AHA exfoliants to dissolve the bond between dead skin cells through a natural, chemical process. The mask is also blended with organic aloe and rose to soothe skin and reduce the redness often associated with the active process of AHA exfoliation. Simply apply a thin layer to clean skin and rinse off after 15-20 minutes to reveal fresh, glowing skin. Just remember to wear sunscreen when heading outside afterward!
